My Accidental Sourdough Era

After years of being intimidated by the process, I finally started my sourdough journey in July 2023. My son was about to turn one — so naturally, I thought it was the perfect time to take on a new, kneady flour child.

I did a lot of research (with mostly contradictory information) but trusted my general baking and science instincts to create my own starter. After about two weeks of obsessive babysitting, it was alive — bubbly, smelly, and oddly charming.

In true sourdough tradition, it needed a name. Around that time, the Beavis and Butt-Head revival had just come out… so: meet Beavis!

I’ve always loved cooking from scratch, and adding homemade sourdough to the mix just felt right. If you’ve ever been curious about it, here’s my advice:

Just try it. It’s not nearly as scary as it seems.
